Tom DeLay, the former House majority leader, is pulling out his dancing shoes for the popular ABC reality show “Dancing with the Stars.”
Mr. DeLay, a Texas Republican, will be the second politician to showcase his footwork on the show, now in its ninth season. (Jerry Springer, a former mayor of Cincinnati, better known as a fiery talk show host, appeared in the third season.) Mr. DeLay will be part of a cast of 15 celebrity contestants, including the singer Macy Gray and the actress Melissa Joan Hart.
Mr. DeLay was forced out of the House in 2006 after he was charged in Texas with conspiring to violate campaign-finance laws. The case has not yet come to trial.
Mr. DeLay, who now works as a political consultant, appears excited about his new gig. After the news began circulating, he wrote on Twitter: “This is going to be so much fun. I will need your support.”
